(DailyVantage.com) – House Republicans were joined by 14 Democrats in Congress to pass a resolution condemning the administration of President Joe Biden for its lack of action regarding the migrant crisis at the U.S. border.
House Resolution 957 called out the White House’s “open borders” policy, which the representatives say they believe have caused “the worst border security crisis in the Nation’s history.”
Data released by the House Committee on Homeland Security in October last year shows that in September 2023 alone, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded 269,735 migrant encounters at the U.S.’ Southwest border, a whopping 86% increase from encounters recorded in June of that same year. Reports also indicate that Border Patrol officials confirm the intense surge of migrants along the U.S. – Mexico border, as depositions taken by the Congressional Homeland Security Committee reveal testimony from border chiefs agreeing that the current migrant crisis the U.S. is facing at the moment is ”unprecedented.”
According to HR957, the in the Biden administration alone, more than 7 million illegal aliens have been encountered along the Southwest border, with “at least 3.3 million” of these individuals released and allowed to enter the U.S. Furthermore, the resolution also calls out the administration for allowing 1.7 million “known illegal alien “got-aways’” to slip past U.S. Border Patrol in the same area. The resolution also cites the 312 illegal aliens listed on the U.S.’ Terrorist Screening Dataset that were encountered by border officers during President Biden’s tenure.
The resolution accuses the Biden administration of “creating the illegal alien crisis” at the U.S.-Mexico border and allowing “fentanyl to saturate United States communities and kill Americans” through “lax immigration enforcement policies” that create threats to national security and constitute an abuse of authority.
While the resolution is considered non-binding, the House, led by members of the GOP in Congress, are taking more concrete steps to address the problem, such as initiating impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Aljandro Mayorkas.
