(DailyVantage.com) – According to authorities, the man who recently struck and killed a child with a vehicle in Texas had been deported five times before the tragic incident. Police claim that Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas drove a black pickup truck and hit a 10-year-old boy before fleeing the scene. Reports indicate that Ortiz-Olivas is a Mexican national who frequently encountered border patrol officials before the accident, with an extensive record of five deportations back to Mexico.
Texas authorities confirmed that Ortiz-Olivas used a fictitious identity during the incident, as the illegal immigrant went by the name Juan Ortiz Perez before police arrested him. Ortiz-Olivas allegedly hit the young boy with the black pickup truck while he attempted to cross the road after school. Police quickly transported the child to a Lubbock, Texas, hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead. Ortiz-Olivas tried to flee the site of the accident, but authorities quickly found him and detained him for the boy’s death.
Despite being detained by police in Midland County, Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas is currently on an immigration detainer instituted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Authorities could deport Rogelio Ortiz-Olivas depending on how his hit-and-run case progresses, forcing the immigrant to spend his prison sentence in a Mexican prison. Border patrol agents initially deported Ortiz-Olivas after he agreed to a voluntary removal. During his voluntary removal, Ortiz-Olivas had his fingerprints taken by authorities, which police used to determine his involvement in the hit-and-run.
The hit-and-run is the latest instance of an illegal immigrant entering the United States before causing an American citizen’s death, with a similar incident occurring just days ago. On February 8th, Rafael Govea Romero allegedly murdered a 16-year-old cheerleader after illegally entering the United States. Cases like Romero and Ortiz-Olivas’s serve as a reminder of President Biden’s approach to border security, which many lawmakers claim is inadequate and enables criminal activity.
Despite numerous tragedies resulting from illegal immigrants entering the country, President Biden hasn’t addressed the ongoing surge of migrants into the United States. Biden regularly claims the southern border is secure and dismisses political opponents who cite instances like Ortiz-Olivas’ hit-and-run case. Although Biden claims the border is secure, American voters aren’t entirely convinced.
