53 Dead, Dozens Injured in Migrant Truck Accident

(DailyVantage.com) – Since President Joe Biden took office in January, the situation at the border has spun out of control. Customs and Border Patrol has apprehended hundreds of thousands of migrants, and it’s impossible to determine how many more might have made it into the country. Still, that hasn’t stopped the hoards of people trying to make their way here, though, and sometimes the consequences are devastating.

On Thursday, December 9, a tractor-trailer crashed in the Mexican state of Chiapas. Over 100 migrants were on board, and 53 died due to the crash. At least another 58 suffered injuries. The truck driver attempted to navigate a dangerous curve at high speeds, causing him to crash into a pedestrian bridge.

Authorities haven’t disclosed the nationalities of those killed, but many survivors are from Guatemala. Authorities suspect others came from Honduras and Belize.

While the Biden Administration recently reinstated the “Remain in Mexico” policy, and Mexico itself has tried to stem the flow, many migrants still hope to make it to the US border. They often rely on dangerous means to get there, such as paying smugglers to help them get through the cartels. Unfortunately for those seeking out the American dream, it often results in deaths or capture when incidents like this occur.
