Actress Danielle Fishel Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

(DailyVantage.com) – Hollywood actress Danielle Fishel revealed during an August 19 episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World” that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The star of Boy Meets World said during the latest episode along with her cohosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle that the type of breast cancer she had was “ductal carcinoma in situ,” also known as DCIS.

The 43-year-old actress explained she feels confident in her recovery as the cancer is “very early,” and at “stage zero.” She said that while she felt many emotions after the diagnosis, she remains optimistic and explained that moment made her value life even more.

Fishel also said that while that type of cancer isn’t exactly life-threatening, the main risk that people who suffer from DCIS face is that they will have a “very high risk” of eventually developing invasive breast cancer. She also told her cohosts Friedle and Strong that nearly 30 percent of all new breast cancer cases in the country are DCIS.

When asked what was going to be her next step, the actress said that she was going to have surgery to remove the DCIS shortly and then she was going to be on a “follow-up treatment.” Fishel added that the situation she was going through made her reflect on many ideas she had in the past, as she explained that she always told herself that if she was ever diagnosed with cancer, she would keep it private. However, the actress explained that she learned from author Glennon Doyle that the place where people can learn the most is through a complicated moment in their lives.

Fishel, who is a mother of two and is married to Hollywood producer Jensen Karp, became one of the most famous actresses of her generation thanks to the success of the 90s legendary sitcom. On that hit show, she played Topanga Lawrence, who was considered by many the most charismatic character.
