Actress Survives 5-Story Fall, Stands for the First Time

(DailyVantage.com) – Actress Mamie Laverock, who in May fell from a fifth-floor hospital balcony, took her first steps in over two months last week as her family looked on.

Laverock fell from the fifth floor of a Vancouver hospital on May 26, just weeks before her twentieth birthday while she was under medical care.

The “When Calls the Heart” actress was rushed to the hospital on May 11 due to a “medical emergency” and was later transferred to a Vancouver hospital as part of her recovery, according to a GoFundMe account launched by Laverock’s family.

The Hallmark actress was being escorted from a secure unit in the hospital at the time and was on a fifth-floor balcony walkway when she fell.

The fall left Laverock on life support and in a coma. Laverock woke up several days later in “tremendous pain,” according to her family. She subsequently underwent multiple surgeries to repair her “shattered” body.

In a video clip posted on Facebook last week, Laverock is seen wearing air casts on both of her feet while two hospital staffers help her from the bed to a walker as her family looks on.

Laverock describes the experience to her father who was watching via FaceTime, telling him that she was “very wobbly.” When she got to the walker, Laverock proudly declared that she was standing “all by myself.”

Following her May 26 fall, there was speculation that Laverock had jumped from the balcony in a suicide attempt. However, her mother Nicole Rockmann denied the speculation, telling the Los Angeles Times that it was the fault of the hospital staff escorting her daughter.

Rockmann suggested that the family would take legal action against the hospital, adding that there would be “accountability” for her daughter’s accident.

Laverock played nursing student Rosaleen Sullivan in Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart,” a period drama set in early 20th Century Canada.

The actress also appeared in the Hallmark original film “Wedding of Dreams.”
