(DailyVantage.com) – The Chicago Sky of the WNBA will be limiting the media time for rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, pointing to a change in the league’s rules that stipulate that a team’s forward and center would be exempted from all media interviews during morning shootarounds.
However, the team’s decision also comes on the heels of recent statements from the Sky’s star player, who said just a few days ago that the media had a tendency to twist her words and take her statements out of context.
“I know how y’all like to twist my words,” Reese said at a post-game press conference from a match with the Indiana Sky, where her rival Caitlyn Clark plays. “I can’t trust any of y’all.”
Reese also lamented how she has been getting harsher calls from the refs of late – Reese was handed a technical foul for an exchange of words with Fever player NaLyssa Smith. Smith was also called for a technical. The Fever had won the two of the last three games the two teams have played against each other, with the Sky finally securing a one-point win during the June 23 matchup. The Sky also finally broke a winning streak by the Fever, who had won all of their last four games before the loss.
Another issue Reese says she is having is what she called a “special whistle” for Caitlyn Clark – Reese claims that referees favor the former Iowa college star and let her walk away from fouls they would have called on someone else.
“I saw a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle,” she said.
During their June 16 game, however, Reese is seen decking Clark in a hard foul, slamming her arm on Clark’s head as the latter was attempting a layup. The foul was later upgraded to a flagrant 1 after refs reviewed the game footage.
