(DailyVantage.com) – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce (USCC) is pushing back against the administration of President Joe Biden, which the chamber claims has prioritized labor union interests over those of individual workers, employers, and even the economy.
The White House recently put out information on a global labor strategy, but the U.S. Chamber of Commerce called the initiative “misguided” and said it has the capacity to “hurt American businesses” and their respective workers that are involved in international commerce.
In a recently published report, the USCC said that the Biden administration has “mobilized the entire apparatus of the federal government to promote unions,” an “unprecedented” move that is ultimately, in the USCC’s view, “harmful to workers, employers, and the economy.”
President Biden has fashioned himself into a self-proclaimed champion of labor unions, ostensibly as part of his efforts to secure a second term in the White House. Just a few months ago, the president joined the picket line of auto workers protesting—ironically—the neglect of auto workers’ jobs and work conditions caused, at least in part, by the Biden administration’s push towards the production of more electric vehicles that few consumers want or can afford.
Only recently, the White House quietly took down a webpage that shows how much time and taxpayer dollars go into union activities for federal workers. Federal workers are allowed to engage in union activities while they are on the clock, and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has provided time reports for these activities since 1998.
The removal of the page is telling. Maxford Nelson, who serves as director of research and government affairs at Freedom Foundation, a free market think tank, says that at the bare minimum, the government owes taxpayers an “accurate accounting of the associated costs” for federal workers’ union activities done during official work hours.
Speaking to Fox News, Nelson also pointed out that the past two administrations—two Democrats and two Republicans—have provided documentation on these costs regularly. In comparison, the Biden administration has never issued such a report.
