Body Found on NYC Sidewalk Inside Sleeping Bag

(DailyVantage.com) – A July 5 call to New York City police turned out to be much worse than the “suspicious package” the caller was concerned with. After making their way to the Kips Bay neighborhood on Manhattan’s east side, cops discovered a dead body. In a formality, paramedics on the scene pronounced the man inside the dark sleeping bag dead.

The body in the bag has now been identified as 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams. Her body was found amid a pile of actual trash bags on the street, according to local resident Ted Oehmke, who took video of the grotesque scene. He told media he saw something suspicious on the street next to a BMW SUV with an open hatch last Thursday. By Friday, July 5, the BMW was gone but the package was still there.

Oehmke said he can’t figure it out. Why go to the trouble of wrapping a body in a bag only to drive it to a public street in a very identifiable car in full view of passersby and cameras? “I don’t know how you would expect to get away with that,” he said.

Perhaps the confidence of this particular criminal can be explained by the remarkably lax policing standards in American cities over the past four years.

The New York Medical Examiner has confirmed that Williams died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Police discovered the body outside a now-closed business called “Apel’s Alterations.” Witness Oehmke said the business has been closed since the owner died a couple years ago.

He wasn’t the only one who noticed the body. Apparently decomposition had set in and the foul odor alarmed passersby.

As of July 9, 55-year-old Chad Irish has been charged with concealment of a corpse, and it seems likely that he may be charged further in connection with Williams’ murder. Irish apparently has a record of at least 24 prior arrests, and spent time in prison on robbery and assault charges. He was released on parole two years ago.
