Body of Alleged Thief Found After Victim Fires Back

(DailyVantage.com) – The body of an alleged thief was reportedly found in a street in Glendale, California last weekend. Reports suggest that the would-be thief was shot dead after an individual targeted by the man pulled out a gun and shot him.

According to a report by FOX 11, police officers believe that the deceased individual was also armed when he approached two people who were sitting inside of a car. The suspect, at roughly 10:30pm, intended to rob the two individuals inside of the SUV but was seen. The individual was shot once and died on the scene.

Local resident Terri Robertson spoke the press following the incident, describing how an emergency medical worker attempted to do chest compressions “furiously” on the suspect, but was unable to resuscitate the robber. Robertson added that roughly a minute after attempting to save the suspect’s life, they covered him with a sheet.

Police were unable to immediately identify the individual, and the pair responsible for shooting him were also unable to be immediately identified. The shooter and the passenger reportedly fled the 200 block of East Dryden street, leaving police officers seeking help from the public to identify them. Locals with knowledge of the incident or who know the identity of the shooter and the passenger in the white SUV are encouraged to contact Glendale Police Robbery and Homicide Detectives at 818-548-3987.

Robbery and violent crime in California are two major issues voters are contending with in 2024. The data shows that retail theft and robbery in California, particularly in the Bay Area, Central Valley, and Southern Coastal California, has risen in recent years. 2022 statewide crime data shows that shoplifting has increased by 28.7% since pandemic lows, with commercial burglaries also increased by 5.8% in 2022.

According to the Public Policy Institute of California, commercial robbery has increased in 9 of the 15 largest counties in the state.

The same think tank also noted that California’s violent crime rate is 31% higher than the national rate, based on 2022 data, with those numbers being largely made up of aggravated assaults. Data shows that while aggravated assaults are declining nationally, California sees those numbers increasing.
