(DailyVantage.com) – Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of estranged and former Hollywood power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, celebrated her 18th birthday in a unique way – hiring a lawyer to help her drop the “Pitt” from her legal name.
Shiloh’s decision to remove her father’s last name from hers comes on the heels of allegations from her mother, Angelina Jolie, that Pitt was abusive and manipulative all through the two’s relationship, which lasted for twelve years, with “Brangelina”, as the couple was then fondly known, deciding to tie the knot in 2014.
The marriage only lasted two years, after Jolie filed for divorce in 2016. This was when Pitt’s supposed violent fits became public knowledge. Jolie reportedly recounted an incident on their private plane flying from France to Los Angeles, where the couple got into an argument and Pitt slammed his then-wife into the wall of the airplane, while their children looked on. Jolie said that the incident was the last straw that prompted her to file for divorce.
Following their split and messy divorce proceedings, Jolie has maintained sole custody of their biological children – Shiloh, who just turned 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, who are 15 years old. The two also have three older adoptive children – 22-year-old Maddox, 20-year-old Pax, and 19-year-old Zahara.
A source close to Pitt says that the actor has been largely estranged from his children following the divorce.
“It’s been very difficult for him,” the source said of the situation between Pitt and his children, adding that there have been times where the actor went on long periods of not being able to see his kids. However, the source also said that Pitt has always “been focused on having the best relationship possible” with his children.
It may be a losing battle for Pitt though, as his daughter also opted to drop the “Pitt” last name in the credits in the Playbill for “The Outsiders”, a new musical which was produced by Jolie.
