Cause of ‘Good Times’ Star John Amos’s Death Made Public

(DailyVantage.com) – The cause of death for John Amos, a beloved actor best known for his roles in Good Times and Roots, has been confirmed. According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Amos died from congestive heart failure on August 21. He was 83 years old.

Despite passing in late August, news of his death wasn’t reported until much later. It was revealed that Amos’ son, Kelly Christopher, had his father’s body cremated nine days after his death. Kelly was also the one who informed authorities of his passing. However, his sister, Shannon, was unaware of their father’s death until weeks later when her brother made the announcement.

Shannon expressed her shock and grief on Instagram, revealing that she learned about her father’s passing through the media, much like the rest of the public. In her emotional post, she wrote, “We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago.” Shannon also expressed sorrow over the ongoing family conflict, hinting at tensions with her brother and even accusing him of elder abuse.

John Amos, born in New Jersey, had a long and successful career spanning five decades. He first gained fame in the 1970s, starring in the sitcom Good Times. He then played a memorable role in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and earned an Emmy nomination for his powerful performance in the groundbreaking mini-series Roots. His portrayal of Kunta Kinte’s father remains one of his most iconic roles.

Amos continued acting throughout his life, appearing in various TV shows such as The West Wing, Two and a Half Men, and Suits LA. On the big screen, he starred in films like Coming to America, Die Hard 2, and The Beastmaster. His final film role was in The Last Rifleman in 2023.

With his passing, Hollywood has lost an actor who made a lasting impact both on and off the screen. His roles, particularly in Roots and Good Times, left a mark on American culture, and he will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
