(DailyVantage.com) – Media outlets and anti-Trump celebrities falsely claimed that Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump was suggesting that he would become a dictator when he told supporters at a campaign event that once they helped give Trump the biggest landslide victory in November, they would never have to vote again.
A video clip of Trump’s remarks went viral among anti-Trump social media users over the weekend, with even celebrities like rapper Cardi B sharing the selectively edited clip on X.
However, in an interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Trump explained that he was trying to convince Christians to vote for him in November and had joked that he wouldn’t care if they voted after that election because the country would be fixed and Trump wouldn’t need their votes anymore.
When asked for comment on Trump’s remarks, campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Reuters that the former president was discussing “uniting the country and bringing prosperity to every American.” He insisted that Trump was speaking out against “the divisive political environment” which he said “sowed so much division” that someone even attempted to assassinate Trump.
Contrary to the claims made by anti-Trump celebrities, including Rob Reiner, Barbra Streisand, Cardi B, and Mia Farrow, Trump was not suggesting that he would end voting once he took office.
The full context of Trump’s remarks made it clear that the former president needed every vote he could get to prevent the Democrats from cheating and that once he took office, he would ensure that the elections were secure enough to prevent future cheating.
Trump, who was speaking at the Believers’ Summit hosted by Turning Point Action, said his goal as president was to secure US elections by requiring proof of citizenship, voter ID, and same-day voting with paper ballots.
He blasted the Democrats for opposing voter ID laws, suggesting that they wanted to “cheat.”
Trump urged the crowd to vote in November, saying that Republicans needed a “landslide that’s too big to rig.” He stressed the importance of a large turnout to prevent cheating and urged Christians to “get out and vote,” adding that if he won in November, US elections would be “fixed so good” that their votes wouldn’t be needed.
