(DailyVantage.com) – CNN’s Don Lemon, who is not exactly known for his perceptive political commentary, called out new 2024 presidential hopeful Nikki Haley in a rather unexpected way.
When asked by his co-host what he thought about Haley’s suggestion that politicians 75 years and older are “past their prime”, Lemon responded that “Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry”. The, perhaps too candid, comment elicited surprised reactions from the rest of the all female panel. Lemon went on to say that, according to Google, women are “in their prime” in their 20s, 30, and 40s.
Lemon, however, was rather ambiguous about what it meant to be “in your prime”. Whether or not he was referring to a woman’s ability to give birth or some other metric was unclear.
What is clear, however, is that Lemon’s remarks have received quite a bit of blowback. Robby Soave, the host of the Hill’s Rising, tweeted “a bad day to be Don Lemon”. Clay Travis, host of the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show, tweeted “This may be the dumbest thing ever said on CNN”, pointing out that Haley is only 51 while Biden is 80.
Haley herself responded to Lemon’s confounding comments saying that “it’s always liberals who are the most sexist.” On her Twitter account, Haley is retweeting a slew of other tweets defending her against the 56 year old Lemon.
Not long after the social media firestorm commenced, Lemon apologized for his comments saying that they were “inartful” and “irrelevant”. He went on to say that his colleagues helped him come to this understanding.
All of this comes just days after Haley recommended that politicians over the age of 75 undergo “mandatory mental competency tests” at a rally in South Carolina. Her remarks garnered a ton of social media buzz as she was likely targeting, not only Joe Biden, but also her former boss President Trump who is 76.
