Democrats Advise Harris to Focus on Core Issues Amid Growing Concerns

(DailyVantage.com) – Vice President Kamala Harris is being urged by key Democrats to shift her campaign’s focus to issues that resonate with working-class Americans, rather than what critics call “feel-good” messaging aimed at reaching across the aisle. According to a report from the Associated Press, Harris’s campaign has been advised to prioritize concrete, “bread-and-butter” issues like job creation, healthcare, and economic stability to reconnect with her base and strengthen her appeal to middle- and working-class voters.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders has expressed concerns that Harris’s campaign strategy has been too centered on appealing to moderate Republicans, potentially alienating Democratic voters who form her core support. “There are a lot more working-class people who could vote for Kamala Harris than there are conservative Republicans,” Sanders told AP. He emphasized that the campaign’s focus must be on issues that matter to these voters, citing the economic struggles of everyday Americans. Sanders, who has campaigned on Harris’s behalf in rural areas, stressed the urgency for a new direction. “She has to start talking more to the needs of working-class people. I wish this had taken place two months ago,” he noted.

Adam Green, co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, acknowledged Harris’s investment in ad campaigns on key economic issues like grocery prices, billionaire taxes, and Social Security. While these messages resonate with the Democratic base, he pointed out an “odd disconnect” between the content of the ads and Harris’s campaign events, which have leaned toward unity themes. “Right as voting begins, the focus is almost exclusively on kumbaya optics that depress the base,” Green explained.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump has maintained a clear campaign focus on what he describes as a nation in decline under Harris’s leadership. Trump is expected to deliver his closing message Sunday at Madison Square Garden, zeroing in on topics like the economy and national security. At recent rallies, Trump has repeatedly asked his supporters, “Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”—a message aimed squarely at his base. Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller contrasted the two candidates, claiming Harris “broke the economy” and “broke the border,” while emphasizing Trump’s agenda to restore American prosperity.

In short, as Election Day nears, Harris is under pressure to clarify her platform. For many voters, her campaign’s message remains unclear—a challenge that could determine the outcome of this historically close race.
