Democrats Push for Biden’s Reelection in New Platform

(DailyVantage.com) – The delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday approved the party’s 2024 platform which still included 19 references to President Joe Biden’s second term.

The DNC’s platform committee approved this year’s convention platform just five days before President Biden’s July 21 announcement withdrawing from the 2024 race and endorsing Kamala Harris. As a result, the over 90-page platform repeatedly refers to the Biden administration’s record and Biden’s second term, while only mentioning Kamala Harris’ tenure as vice president without going into any detail about her policy positions on key issues.

The delegates approved the nonbinding convention platform around the Biden administration’s vision for a second term. However, it is the only policy agenda proposed by the Democrats since Vice President Harris still has not released a proposed agenda on her campaign website.

The DNC said the platform lays out the “historic work” that Biden and Harris have done “hand-in-hand” and outlines its “vision for a progressive agenda” for the next four years.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero, a co-chair of the platform committee, told the delegates on Monday that the platform was approved before President Biden dropped out of the race “in an act of love and patriotism.”

However, Romero insisted that the platform echoed the voices of every faction of the Democrat Party and was a “forward-looking vision.” The only difference was that instead of President Biden, it was Vice President Harris who was “carrying the torch,” she added.

Mitch Landrieu, another co-chair of the committee, said the party platform included a “strong statement” about the work accomplished by the Biden-Harris administration and also represented the party’s “bold vision” for the future.

The platform includes overturning state laws restricting abortion, advancing a green energy agenda, capping childcare costs for low-income families, and pursuing legislation that provides a pathway to citizenship for foreign nationals in the country illegally.

The platform also plays both sides by expressing supposed “ironclad” support for Israel’s right to defend itself while also endorsing a ceasefire to stop Israel’s war against Hamas.
