(DailyVantage.com) – Republican presidential candidate and Florida’s Governor, Ron DeSantis, recently claimed that the 2024 presidential election would be “nasty” if the Republican Party nominated former president Donald Trump as the GOP’s presidential candidate. DeSantis’s prediction comes as Donald Trump maintains a commanding lead over other Republican candidates like DeSantis and Nikki Haley, making Trump the most likely GOP nominee for the upcoming election. DeSantis made his prediction during an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation” and warned viewers about potential violence resulting from Trump’s nomination.
During the interview with Margaret Brennan, DeSantis claimed that the Republican Party is in an excellent position to win the upcoming presidential race. DeSantis went on to say that he expects the losing side, Democrat or Republican, to become violent after media outlets announce the election results to American citizens. DeSantis said that he hoped each side could refrain from violence but indicated that the Republican Party could invite violent opposition if it focused on Donald Trump. According to DeSantis, the GOP should reorient its focus on President Joe Biden and the failures of his administration during his first term in office.
DeSantis also stated that the GOP should avoid controversial topics, including the 2020 presidential election. DeSantis then referred to Trump’s various legal battles, advising the Republican Party to prevent providing attention to controversies surrounding the former president. Trump’s various criminal cases have made national headlines repeatedly throughout the opening months of the presidential election, raising concerns about Trump’s eligibility as a presidential candidate. Certain states are also attempting to remove Trump from the ballot, prompting a looming Supreme Court decision. DeSantis claims the Republican Party shouldn’t focus on the ongoing legal battles surrounding Trump’s campaign and should instead divert attention to the failings of the Democratic Party.
DeSantis isn’t the only person who fears violence resulting from the 2024 election outcome, as a poll indicates many Americans share DeSantis’s fear. According to a survey from CBS News, approximately 49% of voters believe that the losing party of the 2024 presidential race could become violent upon the election’s conclusion. Among the primary reasons for voters’ concerns is the now infamous January 6th incident, when a large number of protestors stormed the United States Capitol to contest the 2020 presidential election results.
