(DailyVantage.com) – Fox News reporter Peter Doocy sparred with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre over the role Vice President Kamala Harris played in the Biden administration’s open borders policies.
After President Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed his vice president as his replacement, Republicans quickly sought to hang the border crisis around Kamala Harris’ neck.
In March 2021, the president made his vice president the point person on the border crisis, a position the media described as “border czar.” But now that Harris is running for president, the same media that declared her the border czar accused Republicans of falsely claiming that she was the border czar.
During the July 25 White House press briefing, Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre on the change in narrative, asking her why the Democrats had become “so sensitive” about Harris’ role in addressing the border crisis.
Rather than address the question, Jean-Pierre accused Republicans of being sensitive and claimed that they were to blame for the crisis at the border. She suggested that Republicans were responsible for the influx of illegals since Biden took office because they blocked the bipartisan immigration bill earlier this year.
When Doocy asked if she thought border security would be less of an issue today if someone in the White House had addressed the “root causes” of illegal immigration, Jean-Pierre got defensive, noting that she mentioned at the start of the press briefing that border crossings were down by 55 percent because of the actions taken by President Biden and Vice President Harris.
Jean-Pierre again accused Republican lawmakers of blocking the bipartisan legislation that included additional funding and resources for Border Patrol. She claimed Republicans were blocking measures to fix the immigration system and insisted that the White House would continue to “debunk the false characterization” that Kamala Harris was responsible for addressing the border crisis.
Jean-Pierre noted that Vice President Harris was not the border czar and reminded Doocy that “independent fact-checkers” had confirmed that no such position existed in the Biden administration.
