(DailyVantage.com) – San Francisco has been rife with drama, particularly concerning its police department. Earlier this year, the city’s police commission rejected proposed budget cuts, which would have resulted in the layoff of over 100 officers and other reductions, catering to the ‘Defund the Police’ movement. On October 31, a Fox News report revealed that the Austin, Texas, city council reduced its police budget by one-third in the summer of 2020. Now, a billionaire is speaking out about the city’s current trajectory.
The Fox report revealed startling statistics. Since cutting its police budget, Austin has seen an astounding 88% increase in murders as of September 30. Responding in a tweet directly to the report, Tesla owner Elon Musk freely expressed his opinion.
Austin should be its city, not a San Francisco copycat

While one might wonder why exactly Musk cares about what happens in Austin, it turns out he has a pretty serious investment in the city. In October, the Tesla CEO announced he was moving headquarters there from Palo Alto, California. The move came amid the high cost of living for his employees, many of whom had a lengthy commute.
On Tuesday, voters will head to the polls to decide whether to increase police presence by enacting Proposition A. Because making budget cuts is one thing, but making budget cuts in the face of rising crime is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
