Ex-NBA Player Slams LeBron James for ‘Abuse of Power’

(DailyVantage.com) – LeBron James, the current NBA’s biggest star and oldest player is still on the receiving end of criticism for Los Angeles Lakers’ hiring of James’ son, Bronny James.

A social media post from former NBA journeyman player Steven Hunter accused the older James of engaging in nepotism and exercising an “abuse of power” by pressuring the Lakers to hire Bronny, despite the latter being just 55th overall pick.

“This wasn’t earned, I’m sorry,” Hunter said of James’ actions. Hunter, who played in the league in 2002 to 2010, added that the hiring essentially was an “egregious abuse of power” and was a disservice to more dedicated and talented – albeit much less connected – young men who are waiting for a chance to become part of, and play in, the NBA.

However, for veteran spots pundit Adrian Wojnarowski, the supposed “nepotism” exercised by James is hardly a new occurrence in the industry. He also pointed out that nepotism has long existed in the league, particularly in the front office, coaching staff, and even through and among the ownership.

Bronny has also been the subject of intense criticism – especially due to the circumstances surrounding his hiring and his performance in the NBA Summer League. Before July 15, the rookie has reportedly only managed to secure a total of 15 points, along with a dismal 0-for-12 record on three-point shot attempts, and a 6-for-26 record for shooting from the field. As of July 15 as well, the Lakers have lost the last four games that they played.

LeBron has also come out in defense of his son, saying that Bronny “doesn’t care” about external comments and criticism.

“He doesn’t even listen to that stuff [criticism],” the older James said of the rookie. “He’s like the coolest,” LeBron said.

Should Bronny pass muster during the Summer League, he has the potential of playing in an actual game for the Lakers. His participation would effectively be a fulfillment of one of James’ goals, which was to play alongside his son in a basketball game.
