Fetterman Claims Opposing Trump Equals Opposing America

(DailyVantage.com) – Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., emphasized the importance of supporting the president-elect for the nation’s success, expressing hope that Donald Trump’s administration will be successful. Fetterman made his remarks during a pre-recorded interview with ABC’s This Week co-anchor Jonathan Karl, which aired on Sunday.

“I’m not rooting against him,” Fetterman said. “If you’re rooting against the president, you are rooting against the nation. And I’m not ever going to be where I want a president to fail. So, country first. I know that’s become maybe like a cliché, but it happens to be true.”

Fetterman also addressed Trump’s movement, dismissing claims that it was rooted in fascism. He noted that Vice President Kamala Harris had referred to Trump as a fascist during the campaign, but he believed such language didn’t resonate with most Americans. “Fascism, that’s not a word that regular people use, you know?” he said. “I think people are going to decide who is the candidate that’s going to protect and project, you know, my version of the American way of life, and that’s what happened.”

As a senator, Fetterman has begun meeting with Trump’s Cabinet nominees and stated that his decisions on confirming them would come from careful consideration. He underscored the importance of his role in evaluating nominees fairly, regardless of political differences.

“I believe that it’s appropriate and the responsibility of a U.S. senator to have a conversation with President-elect Trump’s nominees. That’s why I met with Elise Stefanik and Pete Hegseth, just wrapped with Tulsi Gabbard, and look forward to my meetings with others soon,” Fetterman wrote on social media. “My votes will come from an open mind and an informed opinion after having a conversation with them. That’s not controversial, it’s my job.”

The senator reiterated his earlier stance that Democrats need to maintain composure and focus on substantive issues rather than reacting to every statement or action by Trump. “Democrats cannot afford to ‘freak out’ over everything Trump says or does,” Fetterman noted. He also pointed out that Trump has not yet taken office, suggesting that patience and prudence were necessary during the transition.

Fetterman’s comments reflect a call for bipartisan cooperation, emphasizing the need to prioritize the nation’s well-being over partisan divisions as the Trump administration prepares to take office.
