Former Senator Abandons Democratic Party, Expresses Discontent

(DailyVantage.com) – Former California State Senator Gloria Romero announced her departure from the Democratic Party, stating that it no longer represents the values she once championed. In a public statement on Wednesday, Romero, who served as Senate Majority Leader in California, revealed that she had changed her voter registration to the Republican Party. She joins a growing number of Democrats, including many Latinos, who are leaving the party.

Romero explained her decision by saying, “This is not the Democratic Party that I once championed. I do not recognize it anymore, and I cannot continue.” She praised the Republican Party under Donald Trump for becoming the “champion of working people.”

The following day, in an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, Romero criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for her record on education during her tenure as California’s Attorney General. Romero highlighted Harris’s lack of action to improve schools or provide school choice, a cause Romero had long supported. She specifically pointed out Harris’s attempt to pass legislation that would have jailed the mothers of truant students.

Romero expressed deep frustration with Harris’s handling of education issues in California. “Her record as attorney general showed that she did nothing to change the schools,” Romero stated, adding that in Harris’s hometown of Oakland, 75% of African American and Latino children are unable to perform basic math or reading at proficiency levels. Romero also accused Harris of siding with teachers’ unions to block education reforms that disadvantaged families had fought for in court, as reported.

Romero’s exit from the Democratic Party follows a similar move by California State Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil, who also left the party earlier this year, citing disillusionment with its direction.

In her final remarks, Romero expressed optimism about the future, despite California’s long-standing Democratic dominance. “Blue California may be blue,” she said, “but people are ready to vote for change, to make America great again, and I take pride in saying that today.”
