(DailyVantage.com) – Brit Hume, prophetically, said that Biden would “try to say very little about the border” during his State of the Union Address.
On Tuesday’s episode of ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’, esteemed pundit and senior political analyst Brit Hume rightly noted that the southern border is in shambles: “People are streaming across the border”, said Hume in a rather exasperated tone. “They come with almost certainly invalid claims of asylum.”
While newly released figures from Biden’s Department of Homeland Security show that encounters with migrants at the border plummeted to 130,000 in January, this may, in part, be due to a new liberal interpretation of asylum claims.
The creation of the Department of Homeland Security’s new “CBP One” app, according to some skeptics of the Department’s January border crossing report, made it easier for migrants to cross into U.S. territory with fraudulent asylum claims.
Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden’s Secretary of Homeland Security, lauded the January numbers as a success. The validity of the 130,000 number, however, remains in question.
One might reasonably ask: how many of the asylum claims made by migrants in January were actually authentic and, conversely, how many were outright phony?
Hume went on to say that Biden, in reversing Trump-era policies at the border, was to blame for the surge in illegal migrant encounters.
During the State of the Union, Biden made little mention of the crisis at the southern border. Instead of offering concrete solutions to secure the border, Biden recited empty platitudes like “let’s also come together on immigration and make it a bipartisan issue again.”
Biden then went on to, predictably, cite the January numbers from the DHS: “unlawful migration from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela has come down 97%”. As stated earlier, however, that number is highly dubious.
All in all, Hume’s predictions came true: there simply wasn’t much that Biden could do to put a positive spin on his failures at the border.
