Funding Scandal: Walz’s Ties to Antisemitic Cleric Group Exposed

(DailyVantage.com) – Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has hosted a radical Muslim imam at least five times since becoming governor and his administration awarded the imam’s organization $100,000 in funding.

Imam Asad Zaman, who leads the Muslim American Society (MAS) of Minnesota, was among a group of Muslim leaders in the state that met with the governor’s office in May 2023 to discuss mosque security following a series of mosque fires.

Zaman also appeared with Governor Walz in May 2020 at an event calling for peaceful protests after the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

In 2019, Zaman appeared jointly with Governor Walz on multiple occasions.

In May 2019, the imam attended a Ramadan event hosted by the governor. A month earlier, Zaman gave the invocation before Governor Walz’s annual state address. In January of that year, Zaman joined Governor Walz at a press conference to call for an end to the federal government shutdown.

Following the October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel, Zaman expressed his solidarity with the Palestinians. He also posted an image of the Palestinian flag in response to a Facebook post by Islamic Association of North America Director Yusuf Abdi Abdulle. In his response, Zaman said of the October 7 attacks that the Palestinians had a right to defend themselves.

Zaman’s Facebook page is filled with official Hamas press releases, links to antisemitic blog posts, and even a post linking to a website promoting the pro-Adolf Hitler film “The Greatest Story Ever Told.”

The Anti-Defamation League said Imam Asad Zaman has a history of promoting “classic anti-Jewish themes and justifying violence against Israel.”

State records in Minnesota reveal that Governor Walz’s office awarded Zaman’s Muslim American Society of Minnesota more than $100,000.

The Harris campaign has downplayed Governor Walz’s relationship with the radical, anti-Israel cleric, insisting that the vice presidential candidate did not have a personal relationship with Zaman.

However, exclusive video footage unearthed by Washington Examiner reporter Gabe Kaminsky shows Walz praising Zaman as a “master teacher” who has offered the governor lessons in the time they “spent together.”
