GoFundMe Helps Victims of Trump Attack, Raises $265K

(DailyVantage.com) – While former president Donald Trump only suffered a bloody ear following the failed attempt on his life, a number of other attendees in his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania were not so fortunate – one was killed while two others were critically injured.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of the victims and their families – former firefighter Corey Comperatore, the lone fatality from the shooting; as well as David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who sustained critical injuries. The campaign received the endorsement of the former chief executive, as confirmed by his son, Donald Trump Jr.

“All donations will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover,” reads the campaign’s description. The GoFundMe was organized by Meredith ORourke, a native of Tallahassee, Florida.

As of press time, the campaign’s $1 million target has been exceeded by more than five times, with total donations to date amounting to more than $5.1 million. According to data from the website, the campaign received around 65,100 donations, with several individuals sending contributions as much as $25,000 and $50,000. Some of the prominent donors included Tesla and Twitter / X CEO Elon Musk, who sent $50,000; and former Republican presidential primary candidate and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who contributed $30,000 to the campaign.

There is also another campaign solely for the Comperatore family, organized by a Jason Bubb, who described himself as a neighbor and friend of the family. That campaign has also received massive support, with donations to date amounting to more than $1.1 million, as opposed to the initial target of $7,000.

Comperatore, a 50-year-old fire chief volunteer and former fire fighter, lost his life while shielding his family from bullets. The ardent Trump supporter, who lived in Sarver, Pennsylvania, left behind his wife, Helen, and two daughters, Allyson and Kaylee.

David Dutch, a 57-year-old employee of tech firm Siemens, was also at the rally to express his support for Trump. He was hit by stray bullets, suffering damage to his ribs and liver. He will need to undergo multiple surgeries but he is currently in stable condition. The second victim was identified as 74-year-old James Copenhaver, a registered Democrat from Moon Township, Pennsylvania. His family said that his condition is critical but stable.
