(DailyVantage.com) – New Jersey Republican Congressman Chris Smith on Monday pleaded with the White House to urgently evacuate Americans stranded in Israel following Hamas’ deadly terror attack over the weekend, Fox News reported.
In a letter to President Biden Monday night, Smith urged the White House to utilize all appropriate tools and resources to facilitate the “immediate evacuation” of US citizens in Israel desperate to return home.
Smith noted that the dangers facing American citizens are “grave” and reminded the president that their safety is of paramount importance and the government must make their evacuation an “uppermost immediate priority.”
He called on President Biden to “act rapidly and decisively” to provide the support needed to evacuate the Americans immediately.
The New Jersey congressman told the president that he had received “many reports” from constituents who are stranded in Israel or have family members trying to return to the United States but are unable to do so.
Smith reminded the president that most commercial airlines have stopped flying out of Israel and have not said when their flights will resume. The remaining airlines are not sufficient to evacuate the large number of Americans remaining in the country, Smith said. He urged the White House to consider arranging charter flights so Americans couldld return home.
Smith also told the president that the United States is obligated to provide support to Israel in light of the unprecedented and savage surprise attack by Hamas.
At the same time, Smith told the president that he must “move heaven and earth” to get the Americans in Israel out of harm’s way, adding that those Americans looking to evacuate “must have the opportunity to do so.”
The White House confirmed on Tuesday that at least 22 US citizens were among the dead in last weekend’s brutal terror attack.
