(DailyVantage.com) – With Republicans having secured a razor thin majority in the House during last year’s midterms, cultural issues are on the table. A new bill being introduced by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Jim Banks (R-IN) would disqualify transgender individuals from serving in the military, with few exceptions.
Senator Rubio, in an interview with Fox News Digital, stated that “we need to spend more time thinking about how to counter threats like China, Russia, and North Korea and less time thinking about pronouns.”
Republicans, pretty much since Biden assumed office in January of 2021, have criticized the president for prioritizing “inclusivity” over meritocracy and military readiness. There is a perception that Biden is more worried about optics than national security.
Representative Banks echoed Rubio’s comments saying that he will see to it that the legislation “puts lethality and readiness before far-left ideology.”
During the Trump administration, individuals who were diagnosed with gender dysphoria were blocked from entering the U.S. military. Biden, however, promptly reversed this policy after his 2020 victory.
Trump, while out of office, has, time and time again, criticized Joe Biden’s handling of the military. He insists that it was stronger and more lethal under his leadership. Representative Chip Roy (R-TX), Freedom Caucus member and one of Trump’s staunchest allies in Congress, once stated that Biden and the Democrats are “destroying the culture of our military”. He went on to say that wokeism and leftist causes have no place in the armed forces.
The bill’s fate, however, remains uncertain. Though it is feasible that it will pass through the GOP controlled House, it is unlikely that it will pass a Senate that still retains a slim Democrat majority. Biden will most likely not be signing this bill anytime soon.
