How AI is Predicted to Sway the 2024 Elections

(DailyVantage.com) – Deepfakes and other forms of AI-generated speech are only two examples of how recent developments in AI-generated material are changing the face of political campaigns. With the fast advancement of digital technology, politicians now have inventive and speedy instruments for political communications, but they also can generate convincing propaganda.

This trend heralds some troubling possibilities. We have entered an age characterized by the development and transmission of rich digital information; the days of basic picture alteration are gone. Both liberals and conservatives face new problems due to this change, making it harder to distinguish valid information from phony.

Many prominent politicians are becoming more vocal about their worries about AI being used in campaigns as a big election draws near. Security and integrity of voting initiatives have shifted their focus to artificial intelligence due to its ever-increasing impact. Members of Congress have addressed digital sector heavyweights like Meta, X, and YouTube directly with their concerns.

AI-generated political advertisements have sparked discussions about responsibility, openness, and the need for regulations to guarantee the integrity and honesty of political speech in this modern age.

Some worry that voters in the world’s biggest democracies, including India, Indonesia, and the US, won’t be able to tell whether the campaign rhetoric they hear is genuine.

For a long time, truth has been a byproduct of political campaigns and wars. However, generative AI has recently emerged as a tool for political deception, allowing for the rapid creation of fake videos, clones of candidate voices, and fabricated narratives to discredit the opponent.

A few states have already addressed artificial intelligence independently, even if the federal government still struggles to understand machine learning.

Political deepfake films were criminalized for the first time in September 2019 in Texas, with fines and prison terms of up to $4,000 and one year, respectively.
