(DailyVantage.com) – Two illegal immigrants from Venezuela, reportedly linked to the Tren de Aragua prison gang, were arrested in New York in connection with the robbery and murder of a 59-year-old man at a Super 8 Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut. The suspects, identified as 24-year-old Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias and 22-year-old Moises Alejandro Condollo-Urbaneja, were apprehended at an Amtrak station in Rensselaer, New York, about 155 miles from the crime scene. They were caught with two young children, ages 1 and 3, in their company, and were using the victim’s credit card at the time of their arrest.
Authorities have charged the two with possession of stolen property, grand larceny, and fleeing justice, although no murder charges have yet been filed. Police recovered several of the victim’s belongings, including his car. The victim, Angel Samaniego, was a legal immigrant from Ecuador who was killed during the robbery.
The Rensselaer Police Department confirmed that both suspects were in the U.S. illegally and believed to be affiliated with the Tren de Aragua, a notorious transnational criminal organization from Venezuela. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed detainers on both individuals, and they are currently being held on $2 million bond each.
Galindez-Trias had entered the U.S. via the catch-and-release policy near Fort Brown, Texas, in 2022, while Condollo-Urbaneja is classified as a “gotaway,” having entered the U.S. at an unknown location and time. The two young children, one of whom is a U.S. citizen, have been placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case and are asking anyone with additional information to contact Stamford police.
