(DailyVantage.com) – Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez last week filed divorce papers against actor Ben Affleck after only two years of marriage.
Lopez filed the divorce petition in LA County Superior Court on August 20, which also marked the second anniversary of the infamous “Bennifer” wedding at Affleck’s Georgia home.
The couple, whose decades-long on-and-off relationship was tabloid fodder since the early 2000s, first began dating in 2003 while filming the comedy “Gigli.” While the film was a box office dud, the romance between its two stars generated a lot of media attention.
Lopez and Affleck first got engaged in 2002 but the couple postponed the planned 2003 wedding due to the media frenzy.
Not long afterward, “Bennifer” went their separate ways, with Lopez marrying singer Marc Anthony in 2004 while Affleck and actress Jennifer Garner got married the following year.
Both marriages ended in divorce and in the spring of 2021, Lopez and Affleck began dating again. The couple tied the knot at a midnight wedding ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022. The following month, they held a lavish wedding celebration at Affleck’s Georgia home.
The supposed storybook romance hit the skids this year after Lopez abruptly canceled her upcoming tour in May to take time off for her family. In July, the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion went up for sale for $68 million.
While the 55-year-old Lopez has spoken at lengths about her marriage, the 52-year-old Affleck has been more laconic. However, Affleck did appear briefly in Lopez’s movie “This is Me … Now: A Love Story” which was released on Amazon Prime in February.
Affleck also appeared in the accompanying Amazon documentary “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told” where he described his relationship with Lopez as filled with “beauty” and “poetry.”
Lopez has two children with ex-husband Marc Anthony, twins named Max and Emme. Meanwhile, Affleck and ex-wife Jennifer Lopez have three children, Samuel, Seraphina, and Violet.
