Jill Biden Tells Graduating Students Community Colleges Need to Be Free

(DailyVantage.com) – President Joe Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, recently spoke at Mesa Community College’s latest commencement ceremony. At the ceremony, the first lady claimed that community colleges within the United States should be free. Biden also mentioned her experience as a teacher during the commencement speech, referring to her role at a community college in Virginia while calling for free education. Biden ended her speech by congratulating the 2024 class of Mesa Community College and claimed that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris congratulated the graduating students.

While speaking about her role as a community college professor, Biden claimed that she works at a community college because the education facility serves members of the public better than standard universities. According to the first lady, President Joe Biden agrees with her statement about community colleges and believes they are the best place for students seeking career training. Biden also briefly addressed the “Promise” program on the Mesa Community College campus, which she claims other community colleges should adopt.

The Promise program allows school officials to determine whether or not a potential Mesa Community College enrollee can afford the college’s tuition. If the student can’t afford Mesa Community College’s tuition costs, that student can attend the university for free and waive any registration fees. Biden cites the Promise program as a solid social service that other community colleges should consider and claims that American community colleges should allow all students to pursue an education without paying tuition or other fees.

The Biden administration has heavily focused on college-related policies during President Joe Biden’s first term, with the president even promising American college students that he’d cancel their student loan debt if he won the 2020 presidential election. President Biden initially attempted to fulfill his promise of loan debt forgiveness after taking office, but the Supreme Court ruled against the student debt cancellation and prevented President Biden’s debt forgiveness effort. Many young voters remain critical of President Biden for failing to forgive their student loan debt and cite the unfulfilled promise as a factor they’ll consider in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
