Liz Cheney Says January 6th Committee Could Make a Criminal Referral of Trump

Liz Cheney Makes CRIMINAL Announcement — Donald Trump?

(DailyVantage.com) – The January 6 Committee is continuing to seek and collect information on the events of that fateful day at the Capitol, including former President Donald Trump’s alleged involvement. So far, they’ve heard from multiple witnesses, including Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and some former cabinet members. Many people have one major question based on the information coming out: Could the former president face charges? Committee member Liz Cheney (R-WY) has her own thoughts on the matter.

On Sunday, July 3, Cheney, censured by her own party for participating in the Select Committee, sat down with Jonathan Karl on ABC’s “This Week” to discuss the committee’s progress and whether Trump should face criminal charges. Karl pressed Cheney as to whether the possibility exists the committee would refer the matter to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Her answer was a resounding “yes.”

Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) disagrees with Cheney and other members. He doesn’t believe the committee has the authority to make the referral. Ultimately, Cheney said, the committee has its own views, but the decision to bring charges will reside with the DOJ. She made it clear that the committee would continue to present information to the American public, but it hasn’t decided whether to refer the matter.

Further, Cheney said the DOJ doesn’t need to wait on the committee, either — it can bring charges against Trump at its discretion. According to the committee members, the discovery phase is still ongoing, and more witnesses will testify in the coming weeks and months.
