(DailyVantage.com) – The cast of the Apple TV+ comedy show ‘Ted Lasso’ met with US President Joe Biden in the White House Oval Office on March 20 to mixed response.
The group — which included Hollywood star Jason Sudeikis, who stars as the titular Ted Lasso — were photographed on Monday in the Oval Office with President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. They also made an appearance in the White House Press Briefing Room, where Sudeikis delivered a speech on mental health.
Following the speech, Sudeikis fielded questions from the press before calling on the fictional reporter Trent Crimm, who appears as a character in ‘Ted Lasso.’ Crimm asked Sudeikis for his thoughts on Kansas City being chosen as the location of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to which Sudeikis said he was excited.
In her own speech, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said she was honored to host “Coach Lasso” — a reference to Sudeikis’ character from the show — and stated that the topic of mental health was the “centerpiece” of Biden’s agenda.
While many social media users were excited to see the cast at the White House, others criticized Biden for prioritizing a meeting with actors while Russian President Vladimir Putin was holding meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow.
Social media users also criticized Biden for not spending the time meeting with the residents of East Palestine, Ohio, who are still suffering from the February 2023 train derailment and explosion, which released hazardous materials in the area.
Journalist and conservative commentator Saagar Enjeti, meanwhile, called out the cast of ‘Ted Lasso’ for failing to dress appropriately for their Oval Office meeting with the president.
“No man should set foot in the Oval Office without dress shoes,” Enjeti protested on Twitter, adding that sneakers were especially inappropriate for such an occasion.
Three of the five cast members, including Sudeikis, could be seen wearing sneakers for the meeting. Just one, Brett Goldstein, wore black dress shoes, while none of the cast members wore a tie.
