(DailyVantage.com) – It looks like Democrats are losing their edge over Republicans when it comes to mail-in voting for the 2024 election, according to recent numbers. This could be a big deal, as mail-in ballots have been a major tool for Democrats in past elections.
A chart put together by Eric Daugherty, the assistant news director at Florida’s Voice, shows that in key states like Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, Democrats aren’t requesting as many mail-in ballots as they did in 2020. This is a clear shift compared to the last presidential election, where Democrats had a strong lead in this area.
The chart uses data from two experts, Michael Pruser from DecisionDeskHQ and John Couvillon, founder of JMC Analytics and Polling.
In Florida, for example, back in 2020, Democrats had received over 1 million mail-in ballot requests by September 21, while Republicans had around 891,000. Fast forward to 2024, and Democrats are only at 77,000 requests so far, compared to 48,000 for Republicans. That’s quite a drop. Whether or not this trend continues will play a huge role in how things shape up by election time.
It’s not just Florida. In Pennsylvania, Democrats had received about 1.9 million requests for mail-in ballots in 2020. But now, they’ve only got around 841,000. Republicans, while still behind in numbers, have seen less of a decrease. This could lead to a tighter race in one of the most important battleground states.
In North Carolina, the pattern is the same. Pruser shared data showing that Democrats had requested over 669,000 absentee ballots in 2020, but now they’re falling behind. Daugherty told Breitbart News that Democrats would need a significant wave of support in North Carolina to stay competitive in 2024.
Looking back at the 2020 election, Democrats in Florida got over 2 million mail-in votes, while Republicans got about 1.5 million. If the current trend continues, the Democrats might lose a key advantage they relied on heavily just four years ago. This could change the strategy for both parties heading into the 2024 election.
