Michelle Obama Faces Backlash Over ‘Happy Holidays’ Video Post

(DailyVantage.com) – Former First Lady Michelle Obama faced mixed reactions on Friday after sharing a New Year’s message on Instagram that acknowledged the challenges of recent months. In her video, Obama offered holiday wishes while reflecting on the work of the Obama Presidential Center. However, her remarks about “a difficult few months” drew criticism from some viewers who interpreted them as referencing President-elect Donald Trump’s recent victory.

“Happy holidays, everyone. I know it’s been a difficult few months for so many of us, and that folks are feeling a little bit anxious and uncertain,” Obama said in the video. “But even during these tough times, there are plenty of reasons to stay hopeful,” she added, pointing to initiatives led by the Obama Foundation.

While many followers expressed appreciation for her hopeful message, others, particularly Trump supporters, pushed back in the comments. Some viewed her remarks as a veiled critique of Trump’s election win, despite her not directly referencing politics.

“Michelle, America is excited about what’s to come: a new horizon and prosperity for the nation,” one commenter wrote. “2025-2029! No anxiety here.”

Another replied, “A difficult few years from the damage the Biden administration has caused! Things have never looked better since Trump won the election!”

Still, others responded positively, thanking Obama for her uplifting tone. “Thank you for your message of hope,” one user wrote. “It is so much needed.”

The Obamas were active supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign, with Michelle delivering speeches at key rallies, including a major appearance in Pennsylvania three days before the election. At that event, she indirectly criticized Trump, referring to him as a “skilled con man” who “stokes our fears and focuses our fury on one another.”

Following Harris’s loss, the Obamas released a joint statement congratulating Trump while expressing their disappointment. “This is obviously not the outcome we hoped for,” the statement read, emphasizing the importance of grace and good faith in moving forward as a country.

Despite the backlash from some quarters, Obama’s Instagram message struck a chord with many who appreciated her focus on hope and resilience. Her post continues to draw attention as supporters and critics alike weigh in.
