(DailyVantage.com) – Scuba divers recovered the last of the seven victims aboard tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch’s yacht when they found the body of Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah last Friday.
Lynch’s luxury yacht Bayesian sank to the bottom of the sea after a violent storm hit in the early hours of last Monday off the coast of Sicily.
Of the 12 passengers and 10 crew members aboard, 15 survived. Recaldo Thomas, the ship’s cook, was found a few hours after the storm. The bodies of six passengers, including Mike Lynch, were found last Thursday trapped inside the yacht.
Also found were Morgan Stanley International Chairman Jonathan Bloomer and his wife Judy, as well as lawyer Christopher Morvillo and his wife Neda. The seventh and final body, that of Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter was recovered on August 23.
Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares was one of the 15 people who reached the life raft that was recovered by a schooner near the yacht at the time that it sunk.
The Lynch family released a statement thanking the dive teams. It said the family was “devastated” by the tragedy and was seeking comfort and support from friends and family.
Prosecutors from Termini Imerese were conducting interviews with the survivors and witnesses while the passengers and crew remained confined in a hotel.
An accident investigation was also being conducted by the British transportation ministry.
The passengers aboard the yacht had just completed a tour of the Gulf of Naples on Sunday, August 18, before anchoring a half mile off the coast of Porticello on the island of Sicily.
At about 4:00 a.m. Monday morning, a violent storm with strong winds hit the area. Within minutes, the Bayesian was underwater, leaving only the cushions from the deck floating on the surface near the radar from the yacht’s mast.
Investigators are seeking to determine what caused the $40 million yacht to sink within minutes, whether it was a fault in its construction, crew error, or simply an act of nature.
