(DailyVantage.com) – The search for missing Oregon nurse Melissa Jubane, who disappeared shortly after returning from her wedding, has ended in tragedy. Beaverton Police confirmed on Saturday that her body was discovered after a three-day search. Jubane, 32, had only been home for a few days following her August 24 wedding in Hawaii when she was reported missing.
Jubane and her new husband, Bryan Llantero, had flown back to the Pacific Northwest on August 31, according to Bryan’s mother, Imelda Llantero. The couple had spent Labor Day together, and Jubane returned to work on September 3 at St. Vincent Hospital in Southwest Portland, where she was a nurse. However, when she failed to show up for her shift on September 4, her coworkers and family grew concerned.
Police were called to her residence, but her absence was quickly deemed suspicious. Her bag, wallet, and keys were missing, though her car remained in the parking garage. Efforts to contact her throughout the day were unsuccessful, as her phone appeared to be off.
Authorities soon arrested her 27-year-old neighbor, Bryce Johnathan Schubert, in connection with her disappearance. Schubert has since been charged with Jubane’s murder, and his first court appearance is expected on Monday. Beaverton Police thanked the community for their support during the search and expressed their condolences to Jubane’s loved ones. However, they withheld further details about the investigation to preserve its integrity.
Imelda Llantero, devastated by the news, shared that her son Bryan is heartbroken and has asked her to come to Oregon to support him. “I miss her,” she said, expressing how happy she was that her son had found someone like Melissa. “They were happy, very happy.”
Providence St. Vincent, where Jubane worked, released a statement mourning her loss, calling her an “exceptional nurse” who embodied the values of compassion, excellence, and integrity. The University of Portland School of Nursing, from which Jubane graduated in 2018, also shared their condolences.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials encourage anyone with information to contact the police department.
