(DailyVantage.com) – MSNBC temporarily pulled its program called “Morning Joe” from the air as a response to the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump due to concerns that the show hosts would have made controversial comments about the ordeal. MSNBC decided to pull the show, which traditionally airs every Monday, to report updates about the assassination attempt instead. MSNBC allowed the show to air on July 16, just one day following its temporary postponement, after the show’s hosts discussed the assassination attempt on social media.
One of the show’s hosts, Joe Scarborough, seemed outraged about the network’s decision to pull the show from the air temporarily and shared his aggravation during an interview with Politico. Scarborough said that he disagreed with MSNBC’s decision and threatened to leave the network if a similar incident happened again. Scarborough has also briefly responded to the failed assassination of Trump, but he avoided making controversial comments about the ordeal.
Both of the morning show’s hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, took to X, formerly Twitter, to respond to the failed shooting and shared their condolences with Trump and his family. In Scarborough’s post about the ordeal, the morning show host called for mercy on the people injured during the shooting and asked that people refrain from political violence when discussing their personal beliefs. Scarborough’s comments came as a surprise to many online commenters, given the television show host’s open hostility towards Trump over the last few years.
In March, Scarborough infamously accused Trump of encouraging his supporters to commit violent acts if the former president fails to secure the presidency in the upcoming election. Scarborough claimed that Trump told his supporters to start a “bloodbath” if he wasn’t elected in November, an accusation refuted by Trump’s campaign and other media outlets. Scarborough has also extensively reported on Trump’s various controversies and openly admits to disliking the former president when confronted.
Trump has also expressed his dislike of Scarborough and his wife. Still, the former president seemed appreciative when thanking everyone for their support following the attempt on his life. Trump responded to the failed assassination by calling for unity amongst Americans, despite their political differences, a sentiment shared by various celebrities and President Joe Biden. The failed shooting serves as a stark reminder of the growing political divide within the United States, and many political experts believe further acts of violence may occur upon the upcoming election’s conclusion.
