(DailyVantage.com) – The Big Apple is in a big pickle this week as migrants flow into the sanctuary city from the southern border. The latest solution to house the fresh influx of migrants entering the city on buses from the state of Texas is to put them in a former police academy in Manhattan.
Despite the fact that the academy no longer is used to train officers, the indoor shooting range that is also in the building is still in use, along with lockers for more than a hundred Manhattan officers to store their weapons.
Additionally an office inside the building is still utilized by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, where they examine incidents of force by officers. The reason this facility was chosen is unclear but officials say that the city has no new options to house the migrants, having already opened somewhere around 122 shelters in a wide variety of places around the city, all paid for with tax dollars.
A recent statement released May 1, 2023, by Mayor Adams accused Governor Greg Abbott of a racist motive for his efforts to transport migrants to the self proclaimed sanctuary cities saying, “Abbott is using this crisis to hurt Black-run cities” the statement claimed on the official website for the mayor.
In fact, the migrants are choosing if they’d like to take the buses. They are given the opportunity to board when buses are destined for one of the sanctuary cities accepting the asylum seekers listed in Adams’ statement. Some of the riders take the buses in the hope that they can get closer to their ultimate destination.
In the early morning hours of May 5, 2023 the latest coterie of migrants began arriving into Manhattan by bus from the lone star state. Over only a few short days, between April 26 and April 30, approximately 1,100 migrants arrived in NYC according to City Hall estimates. This is only a drop in the bucket compared to the nearly 60,000 that have arrived in the city during the last year from numerous border states.
