(DailyVantage.com) – Republican GOP hopefuls, Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, as well as others who are yet to announce their candidacy, are attempting to strike a positive tone, often invoking their own version of the “American dream”. This is in sharp contrast to former President Trump’s combative, and often, internecine rhetoric.
The Non-populist wing of the Republican Party, represented by Haley, Scott, Youngkin, and others, look to be distancing themselves from Trump-style pugnaciousness, instead opting for a more sanguine message for America.
Virginia Governor, Glenn Youngkin, who is speculated to be a possible 2024 contender, just released a series of videos meant to embrace “the spirit of Virginia”. In one video, Youngkin is shown welcoming mascots into the Governor’s mansion for March Madness. One commenter on YouTube wrote “Not gonna lie, this was a pretty fun ad.”
Youngkin also, during a recent CNN town hall, appeared to take a more tempered approach when addressing cultural issues like transgenderism and Critical Race Theory. After the town hall was aired, a myriad of articles were written about Youngkin’s non combative tone and affable personality.
Some, mostly on the left, think that the Governor is packaging a hateful message in amicable wrappings. One MSNBC article titled, “Glenn Youngkin’s CNN town hall offers GOP bigotry…with a smile”, makes just that assertion.
Former Trump-era Ambassador to the U.N.and South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley, has also struck a more positive tone. She often speaks about her American success story, being from an immigrant family. Haley has described herself as a “proud daughter of Indian immigrants”. America, she argues, is “not a racist country”, but, rather, one that has offered her and her family incredible opportunities.
While the more moderate GOP candidates are taking a tempered rhetorical approach, Trump has doubled down on his brutal attacks on Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis. At a recent Iowa rally, Trump called DeSantis “a disciple of Paul Ryan, who is a RINO (Republican In Name Only) loser”.
