(DailyVantage.com) – In a surprising show of support, Nikki Haley, former South Carolina governor and one-time GOP primary challenger, published an op-ed on Sunday backing Donald Trump for the presidency. With Election Day only days away, Haley made her case in The Wall Street Journal under the title “Trump Isn’t Perfect, but He’s the Better Choice.” She argued that voters with mixed feelings about Trump should still support him over Vice President Kamala Harris, citing key policy differences and what she called the “Biden-Harris agenda”’s failures.
Haley, who served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump from 2017 to 2018, acknowledged her differences with Trump but underscored her alignment with his policies compared to Harris’s. “I don’t agree with Mr. Trump 100% of the time,” she wrote, “But I do agree with him most of the time, and I disagree with Ms. Harris nearly all the time. That makes this an easy call” (The Hill).
Her op-ed points to specific concerns about national security and foreign policy, areas Haley argued have worsened under the current administration. She took particular aim at border security, criticizing the Biden-Harris team for failing to contain what she called “our most pressing security threat.” Haley also condemned the administration’s handling of Afghanistan, stating it had “created a new terrorist state” and sparked further instability by signaling U.S. weakness. She linked the administration’s approach to Iran with increasing threats to Israel, saying, “Their appeasement of Iran has enriched that despotic regime and emboldened it to pursue war with Israel through its terrorist proxies” (The Independent).
Haley admitted that a second Trump term would likely bring its share of controversy, but she expressed confidence in his policies’ positive impact on the economy and international standing. She noted that another Trump presidency would likely bring “tax cuts, increased support for American energy, and better standing on the world stage.” According to Haley, these benefits should weigh heavily on voters’ minds as they consider the overall impact on their lives and on global stability.
The op-ed struck a realistic tone, with Haley cautioning against expecting perfection in any candidate. She explained, “No politician gets everything right… For those of us clear-eyed enough to see Mr. Trump’s flaws and honest enough to acknowledge them, the question is whether we’re better off with his policies or his opponent’s.”
