No Political Ads on Its Streaming Service, Says Disney

Disney Announces New BAN For Disney+

(DailyVantage.com) – Disney has been at the forefront of the news a lot lately, particularly for its political battle with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R). Now, it’s making waves for another reason: the ads it will allow on its streaming app.

According to a May 17 article in Variety, Disney plans to keep its app, Disney+, free of commercials centering on alcohol or politics. Reportedly, the reason behind the statement is to avoid controversy, which is laughable considering the recent stand the company took against the state’s Parental Rights in Education law. Two media buyers who have inside information say Disney is trying to protect its family-friendly environment.

In addition to these restrictions, the company is also limiting the runtime of ads on the app to four or five minutes per hour. With programs designed strictly for young children, it’ll continue to limit commercials, generally.

With the company still dealing with the fallout of speaking out — it’s likely to lose its Reedy Creek Improvement District privileges — avoiding political ads may be a smart idea. However, the question remains: Will the company be able to avoid them completely? Only time will tell.

What do you think of Disney’s approach? Do you believe the company will really prohibit these types of ads moving forward?
