Ivy-league University Suspends Frat Parties After Reports of Intoxication and Assault
(DailyVantage.com) – Frat parties are a way of life on campus, and for the most part, people enjoy them without incident. However, sometimes the social events get out of control, or there’s a bad actor who ruins everyone else’s good time. Authorities recently stepped in and paused local frat parties after several reports surfaced in a New York college.
On November 7, Cornell University, located in Ithaca, New York, released a statement saying it was temporarily suspending frat parties and all fraternity-related social events while it got to the bottom of horrific claims of student druggings and sexual assaults. The crimes reportedly occurred between September 24 and November 3.

According to the statement, “police and Cornell administrative investigations” are underway. The victims claimed to have ingested very little or no alcohol yet started experiencing symptoms associated with roofies, or Rohypnol, a type of benzodiazepine. All of the incidents happened off-campus at fraternity-associated residences.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Ithaca Police Department at 607-272-3245 or the college police department at 607-255-1111. The university has other ways of reporting information, including the Silent Witness Program or the RAVE Guardian app.
In the meantime, police warn students to remain hyper-vigilant when attending parties. Safeguard drinks by keeping them covered and always in sight. Using the buddy system can help individuals protect themselves as well.
