Pizza Hut Faces Boycott After What They Pushed for Children

( – Lawmakers nationwide have been pushing to eliminate the teaching of gender and sexuality-related topics in young classrooms. Like those in Florida, many have successfully passed laws to this effect. Now, a popular pizza company is under fire for its questionable book suggestions for the BOOK IT! Program.

On June 2, Libs of TikTok posted a series of screenshots showing how Pizza Hut is pushing specific books toward its pre-K to 6th-grade audience. What has people alarmed is a particular title called “Big Wig,” in which a boy dresses up in drag. According to a screenshot of an email, Pizza Hut recommended this book as part of its summer reading program and as part of Pride Month.

Immediately after this situation came to light, the backlash began, with many people calling to boycott the pizza company for pushing gender narratives on young children. The author targeted an audience of children in preschool through third grade.

Critics like those in Florida who passed that state’s Parental Rights in Education bill, often called the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, cite Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) remarks regarding the appropriateness of introducing subjects of sexual orientation or gender identity to children in the third grade or younger without parental consent, knowledge, or involvement. Many questioned impressionable young children’s capacity to understand complex adult information.

What do you think about Pizza Hut’s book selection? Are you planning to boycott the company?
