(DailyVantage.com) – Authorities are finally taking action against the growing presence of the Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, in the Denver metro area. This follows a viral video that shocked Americans by showing gang members taking over apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, and threatening residents.
On Tuesday, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Department arrested four Venezuelan migrants at the Ivy Crossing Apartments near South Quebec Street and High Line Smith Way. The suspects are believed to be members of Tren de Aragua and face charges related to drug crimes, stolen vehicles, and other offenses, according to reports from KDVR-TV.
This apartment complex is located in southeast Denver, just a few miles away from the complexes in Aurora where the viral footage was recorded. In the video, gang members are seen walking through hallways with weapons, making threats to the residents. The footage brought national attention to the alarming rise in gang activity in the area.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said his department is now taking a more proactive approach to tackling gang activity. “We’re looking for any violation that we can stop,” Brown said. However, he did not provide details on how the arrests were made or how officers determined that the suspects were gang members.
The arrests came just days after the viral video highlighted the criminal activity sweeping through Denver. Many critics, including Aurora City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky, blame the rise in gang violence on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s immigration policies. Jurinsky has accused the Biden administration and local Democratic leaders of failing to protect Denver residents.
“This is not just a Denver problem,” Jurinsky told Breitbart News. “It all stems from a failed southern border.”
Since the video surfaced, the Aurora Police Department has joined forces with the Colorado State Patrol and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to create a special task force aimed at tackling the gang problem.
Although police are now acting, attorneys for Aurora apartment complexes had been raising concerns for weeks. Lawyers for CBZ Management sent letters to the Colorado Attorney General, warning about gang activity. However, Governor Jared Polis dismissed these warnings, accusing Jurinsky of exaggerating the issue.
