Many stories of his hidden mistresses and secret children have surfaced over the last several years. Yet, the most recent bombshell involves Putin’s ex-wife, Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, in what could be one of the biggest corruption stories to date.
Putin and his ex-wife enjoyed a 30-year marriage before abruptly announcing their divorce in 2013. One year later, when asked if he’d wed again, the Russian leader said he was more worried about marrying off his ex-wife before he would consider doing so himself. If rumors are true, he not only ensured Lyudmila married but offered a dowry to her new husband, Artur Ocheretny, who is 20 years her junior. The gift was reportedly several millions of dollars.

While Artur and Lyudmila are raising eyebrows with their luxury properties worldwide, the most intriguing part of the story is the non-governmental organization (NGO), of which Artur serves as director. According to journalist Maria Pevchickh, who heads up the investigative division of the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by Alexei Navalny, this NGO is a cover solely to own a historic building in Moscow, once owned by the Tolstoys. Putin’s ex-wife reportedly rakes in millions of dollars annually in rent from the edifice, an alleged gift.
Adding to the story, Pevchikh says the couple has no money of their own. She claims Vladimir Putin has provided all their assets, “stolen for them by … like a reverse Robin Hood.” The reporter noted her purpose in revealing this information was to ensure authorities sanction the couple and their properties and investigate the origins of their money.
