(DailyVantage.com) – Democratic Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin has taken issue with House Republicans who have shut down Hunter Biden’s request to testify at an open hearing.
Raskin is a member of the House Oversight Committee, which is led by Republicans and is one of the Congressional committees in charge of the impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden. In a statement, Raskin called out his Republican colleagues for having “no confidence in their case” and disregarding facts, as well as the lack of the “ability of their own Members (Republicans in the Oversight Committee) to pursue” the case before the public.
Raskin added that Republicans in the House have been “wailing and moaning” for several months about a “vast, unproven family conspiracy” but have refused to let Hunter Biden testify before the committee in a public hearing.
Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, has requested for the younger Biden’s hearing to be public, citing a distrust in the ability of the committee to provide an accurate account of closed-door hearings. In a response to the committee’s subpoena to Hunter, Lowell said that Republicans have used their accounts of closed-door deposition proceedings to “manipulate, (and) even distort the facts and misinform the public.”
“What the Republicans fear most is sunlight and the truth,” Raskin said, also calling out Oversight Committee chairman, Republican Kentucky Representative James Comer, for being tied up in “logical, rhetorical, and factual contortions.”
Hunter is implicated in a number of allegedly shady activities that range from unethical to downright illegal. Chief among the accusations leveled against the presidential son is that he leveraged his father’s position in government to secure suspicious deals with foreign companies, then supposedly sent out payoffs to the president and other members of the Biden family. House GOP members are not only looking to take him down for these activities but also to look for links to the president, which would then give them grounds to impeach him.
