Rep. Green: Biden, Harris Aid Illegals as Americans Struggle After Helene

(DailyVantage.com) – House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) has accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of prioritizing aid for illegal immigrants over Americans struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. The storm has caused widespread devastation across North Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky, leaving more than 220 people dead and many others without access to power, driveable roads, or essential supplies.

The criticism comes after Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas suggested that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is running low on funds to handle the ongoing hurricane season. This announcement followed the Biden administration’s decision to allocate hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to its Shelter and Services Program (SSP), which provides funds to sanctuary cities and organizations that help resettle migrants crossing the southern border.

Green slammed the administration’s priorities, saying Mayorkas’s remarks highlight the “completely backwards” approach of Biden and Harris. He pointed out that the administration has consistently funneled significant FEMA resources into aiding illegal immigrants, a practice House Republicans tried to eliminate in the fiscal year 2024 DHS appropriations bill. However, the spending was reinstated by the Democrat-controlled Senate and the White House.

“This is an issue of priorities,” Green said, condemning the administration for using taxpayer dollars to aid illegal immigration while many American citizens are left to suffer after natural disasters. Green criticized Mayorkas for requesting additional funds from Congress after fighting for nearly $650 million this year for the SSP, which supports migrants in sanctuary cities.

The Biden-Harris administration’s handling of Hurricane Helene has faced growing scrutiny, with critics like Green arguing that resources are being misallocated. He claims the administration is neglecting Americans in need of disaster relief in favor of policies that promote illegal immigration, further fueling frustrations over the government’s response to the ongoing crisis.
