Angry Customer Torches Restaurant for Messing Up His Order
(DailyVantage.com) – In a scene reminiscent of the 1993 film “Falling Down” starring Michael Douglas, a man upset with how a restaurant prepared his food took drastic action. Instead of giving the establishment a chance to right its wrong, he torched the place.
On October 1, 49-year-old Choephel Norbu visited Ittadi Garden and Grill in Jackson Heights, New York, and ordered chicken biriyani. Witnesses said he threw the order back in the employees’ faces when he received his food, claiming they gave him the wrong item. He left, but it didn’t end there.
The next morning, surveillance cameras captured a man, later identified as Norbu, throwing gasoline on the business and lighting it — and himself — on fire. He ran away with his shoes aflame.
Authorities investigated the case for nearly two weeks before finally arresting Norbu. He confessed to setting the blaze, claiming he was drunk and mad. Authorities charged him with criminal mischief and felony arson. The fire he set caused over $1,500 in damages.
Yet, despite the severity of the crime, Norbu was soon free thanks to New York’s controversial bail laws, much to the ire of authorities and locals considering the pre-planned nature of the crime. He’s due back in court on December 18.
