RFK Jr Rips Into State’s Lt Gov For Seeking Bid To Remove Trump From Ballot

(DailyVantage.com) – Despite being potential rivals in the upcoming presidential election, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had harsh words for the Lieutenant Governor of California over the latter’s campaign to get former President Donald Trump removed from the ballot for the Republican primary presidential election.

Calling California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis “an individual with an agenda,” he accused the official of using “legal maneuvers” to have Trump removed from the ballot.

“In democracy, we choose candidates by VOTING,” Kennedy said. He also accused Kounalakis of having “deep ties” to established California Democrats like Governor Gavin Newsom and Representative Nancy Pelosi.

Kennedy, who is running as an independent, likened the situation where Trump’s name is being removed from consideration to events that happen in “banana republics and authoritarian countries.”

The former chief executive’s name has been removed – and is being considered for removal – from ballots over a section of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution that stipulates that individuals involved in an “insurrection” are banned from running for public office. Proponents of the legal mechanism argue that Trump’s involvement in the January 6, 2021 riots in the Capitol qualify as an act of insurrection. In Colorado, the state’s Supreme Court has already ruled that Trump be disqualified from the Republican presidential primary, and his name struck from the ballots. The camp of the former president is appealing the decision.

Strangely enough, though, RFK Jr. has found an ally of sorts on the issue with Governor Newsom. The California Governor has criticized fellow liberals in the party for using the 14th Amendment to have Trump removed from ballots.

In a recent interview, Newsom acknowledged the threat to America’s “liberties and even to our democracy” posed by another Trump presidency, but he stressed that in California, “we defeat candidates at the polls.” He even went as far as calling 14th Amendment-based disqualification campaigns against Trump a “political distraction.”
