(DailyVantage.com) – While Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has not officially declared his candidacy for president in 2024, he sure is receiving a lot of flack from other GOP presidential hopefuls.
So far, most of the media attention has been on former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social feed. Trump has been routinely hitting DeSantis on his new alternative media platform, calling him “Ron DeSanctimonious.” The nickname appears to be an attack on, what Trump perceives as, DeSantis holier than thou disposition.
Trump, in another one of his fiery Truth Social posts, called DeSantis a supporter of “Globalist Club for No Growth, and Open Borders Charles Koch.” He goes on to say that DeSantis supports an “America Last” agenda.
Though Trump’s smears against DeSantis garner, by far, the most press attention, he is not the only GOP presidential hopeful to take shots at the Florida Governor.
Former United Nations Ambassador and Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley, who just threw her hat into the ring for 2024, criticized DeSantis for his Parental Rights in Education act, saying that the bill doesn’t go “far enough.”
Even former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a moderate who is still mulling over a presidential bid, attacked DeSantis for his actions as governor. Hogan, in reference to the Parental Rights in Education Act and similar initiatives, called DeSantis a proponent of “big Government.” He even went so far as to call the legislation “authoritarian.”
Amidst these various attacks, DeSantis has been surprisingly reticent. On Monday’s episode of Fox and Friends, however, DeSantis fired back saying “When you’re out there leading…people see that…But I can tell you, if people are not firing at me, then I must not be doing my job.”
As of now, DeSantis’s course of action seems to be to, more or less, ignore the smears and continue governing. If he does decide to run, however, the counter attacks are likely to be much more forceful.
